Tigers Fans Get Customer Service

Mayor Eddie Francis today announced special bussing and border-crossing arrangements that will help Windsor area baseball fans to enjoy the World Series at Detroit’s Comerica Park.

“Just like most people in the Windsor area, we are very excited that the Detroit Tigers have made it to the World Series. I think there are a great many people who will say that the Tigers are Windsor’s team as much as they are Detroit’s. That’s why our customer service people are making sure that Tiger fans can get to the game as easily and as comfortably as possible.”

At today’s announcement, Mayor Francis was joined by Councillor Caroline Postma - representing the Transit Windsor Board, Pat Delmore – Transit Windsor’s Director of Operations, and Tom Malanfant – the City of Windsor’s Manager of Customer Service and 311. The Detroit and Canada Tunnel Corporation is also supporting the initiative.

“These agencies have joined together to make sure that Tigers fans receive seamless service,” said Mayor Francis. “That’s the Windsor SimpliCity approach… less process more progress.”

U.S. Customs & Border Protection requires that passengers provide their legal name, date of birth and proof of citizenship (passport number if not a Canadian or U.S. citizen). Transit Windsor is working with U.S authorities to arrange pre-clearance, but it is still necessary to carry proper identification.

This means that, starting Thursday, Tigers fans must call 311 to reserve a seat on the special World Series buses. Callers in the surrounding county may call 519-255-CITY (2489), and long-distance callers may use 1-519-877-RING311 (746-4311).

Operators will be standing by as follows:
Thursday & Friday: 7 am – 10 pm
Saturday: 8 am – 8 pm
Sunday: 10 am – 6 pm

The games at Comerica Park are scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. World Series buses will start leaving the downtown bus terminal at 44 University Avenue East at 5:00 p.m., two and a half hours prior to game time. If the game times change, fans will need to reconfirm their reservations. No pre-clearance is needed to return to Canada. The special bus fare is $3.50 each way.

For fans who do not make reservations, the regular tunnel bus will still be operating, although there could be some delays. Passengers may get off the bus at Cobo Hall, take the People Mover to the Grand Circus station, and walk to Comerica Park. The tunnel bus costs $2.75 each way and The People Mover costs $.50 U.S.
