Convention & Visitors Bureau Brings Home the Bronze
Minister of Tourism Jim Bradley announced on Wednesday the winners of the second annual Tourism Marketing Campaign Awards at Blue Mountain Resort near Collingwood. The awards are designed to pay tribute to tourism industry professionals who have demonstrated creative excellence in promoting Ontario’s tourism destinations and activities.
“Ontario has a massive selection of outstanding travel experiences that deserve the award-winning marketing and advertising we are honouring here today,” said Bradley. “The Ontario Tourism Marketing Awards celebrate some of the best marketing campaigns and news stories that have successfully attracted new audiences and effectively showcased some of our province’s many exciting destinations.”
The Best Tourism Advertising, Bronze was awarded to the Windsor, Essex County and Pelee Island Convention & Visitors’ Bureau, for its ‘This is the Life’ marketing campaign. The campaign targeted young men and women in the London area, outlining all of the great tourist attractions and activities in the Windsor-Essex region. The series of ads, created by the HCA group, a Windsor-based marketing and design firm, was designed to showcase a variety of “life” styles to be enjoyed in Windsor and Essex County. The plan was to remind Londoners of the wonderful opportunity to enjoy, as the campaign described, “a getaway that’s close to home but far from ordinary.”
“We are happy to have been recognized among competitors of this calibre, and to be acknowledged in this manner is a salute to the hard work and diligent efforts of our Convention & Visitors Bureau Staff, Marketing Committee, Board of Directors and Advertising Agency of Record.” stated Gordon Orr, Managing Director, Windsor, Essex County and Pelee Island Convention & Visitors’ Bureau.
One other winner of note was Journalist Bruce Kemp, for his ‘Perfect Pelee’ article, featured in Boatguide magazine as he won Best Travel Journalism.
“We are thrilled to honour these outstanding recipients who have shown marketing excellence and innovation in the tourism industry,” said Robin Garrett, Ontario Tourism Marketing Partnership Corporation president and CEO.
