A&W Opens in Windsor
A&W Food Services of Canada Inc. announced the opening of its newest freestanding restaurant in Windsor at 6570 Tecumseh Road East. The opening is especially significant for A&W, since it is its first new freestanding restaurant to open here in almost 30 years. Graham Cooke, VP of Franchise Development and Facilities, said the company is delighted with the early results. “The Windsor/Tecumseh area has a population of close to 300,000, so we know that the opening of any new restaurant is unlikely to be a major event. But the consumer response to our opening has been so overwhelming, we’re already considering how quickly we can build additional locations.” Cooke said that A&W believes the Windsor/Tecumseh market is large enough to accommodate 4-5 freestanding locations over time.
The company already operates two successful locations in Windsor at Devonshire Mall and Tecumseh Mall.
Cooke also said that A&W currently has seven more freestanding locations under construction in Ontario, all of which are expected to open within the next 8 weeks. The locations include Brockville, Trenton, Strathroy, Mount Forest, Barrie, Goderich and Cochrane. All of these new restaurants are owned and operated by franchisees.
He said that for 2007, Ontario will remain an important focus for growth, reflecting the company’s continuing strategic commitment to expand in Canada’s largest province.
